Deuteronomy 3:22-29

REPROACH AND MERCY

“…behold it with thine eyes: for thou shall not go over this Jordan.” Deuteronomy 3:27, KJV

Reproach is an act or expression of disapproval, criticism, blame or  disappointment. In our passage today, Moses recalled an unfortunate event that terminated his call to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land (Numbers 20:1-5). Moses faced God’s rebuke on account of the Israelites unbelief and hard-heartedness. On the other hand mercy is a compassionate treatment, forbearance, kind or forgiving attitude towards someone that you have the right to punish, someone that is subjected to your power. Moses experienced these two sides of God. In anger God refused Moses entrance to the Promised Land but in His mercy He allowed Him to see and view the Promised Land from afar.

Sin is simply an act of disobedience which remains a reproach to any nation or human being. Is there any willful act of disobedience in your life? If you don’t deal with it now it can cost you your life or rob you of joy forever. The result of sin is condemnation. However, the ultimate solution is in Christ Jesus through whom we can obtain mercy. Is there a situation you think can bring reproach to your life? Ask God for mercy and repent of it and the Lord will be your confidence (Proverbs 3:25-26).
